May Meeting - Round 3

With more than 150 drivers taking to the circuit this weekend, the sun shone with scattered showers.

A healthy grid of Cadets were first out to start the third round of this year’s championship. Matt Davies secured a win in heats 1 and 2 followed by James De Havillands finishing second in both. Francis Peters finished third in both heats. James went onto win heat 3, followed by Matt and Jordan Gilbertson. The final saw very close racing with lots of action in the dog leg due to rain falling, Matt secured first place followed by James and Hannah Pymm. Fastest lap went to James.

There was a good turnout for Senior TKM, heat 1 was won by Joe Fox followed by Guy Tolley and Ashley Yorke. Heat 2 was won by Matthew Cardwell, followed by Matthew Allnutt and Ashley. Heat 3 was won by Joe followed by Ashley and Matthew C. Extremely close racing took place with less than 2 seconds splitting the top three in heats 1 and 2, four seconds in heat 3 due to the weather. Lots of exciting action unfolded on various parts of the circuit as the rain fell during heat 3. The track was forming a dry line for the final with drivers having various set up strategies. Pole position went to Joe, with Matthew C 2nd and Ashley 3rd. Richard Morris had an amazing start and came through the pack from ninth to lead the race. The win eventually went to Ashley followed by David Hodson and Guy. Fastest lap went to Richard.

Due to the large number of Senior Rotax that entered this weekend for the Pelican Trophy, four heats had to take place to accommodate them. Heat 1 went to Scott Hutchins, followed my Mat Dittmann and Richard Raymond. Heat 2 went to Danny Russell, Paul Cleaver followed by Richard Hughes. Heat 3 went to James Bishop followed by Chris Thomas and Matthew Dowers. Heat 4 went to Scott Hutchins, Nathan Lawley and Chris Thomas. Pole position for the final went to Scott. Extremely close racing took place on numerous parts of the circuit with some outstanding overtaking manoeuvres. Mat who started in 7th worked his way through the field to challenge Scott for first. Chris Thomas and Chris Dittmann were further down the field but still challenging each other for third and fourth. The win went to Scott with Mat less than a second and a half behind, followed by Chris T and Chris D. Fastest lap also went to Scott.

A combined grid of 125 and 250 gearbox saw some high speeds achieved. Heat 1 125 was won by Jamie Whitehouse followed by Mark Chalmers and Mike Sleigh. Heat 2 was won by Will Miller followed by Mike and Alex Gardiner. Heat 3 was won by Will followed by Jamie then Alex. Pole for the final was secured by Will. Jamie had an excellent start and led the race from lights to chequered. Closely followed by Will then Mark. Fastest lap went to Will.

In heat 1 of the 250’s the win went to Roy Bennett, followed by Toby Davis in his debut year for the 250 class, and Daniel Thornell. Heats 2 and 3 went to Mark Powell followed by Roy and Daniel. Roy secured pole for the final but due to mechanical failure did not take the start, Mark had a great race leading from start to finish. Chris Baldwin, returning to the class after a two year gap, secured second with Daniel finishing third. Fastest lap went to Mark.

Junior Rotax were low on numbers but this didn’t reduce the entertainment value. Heat 1 went to Charlotte Manton, followed by Rob Smith and Jake Lloyd. Heat 2 was won by Max Lawry followed by Guy Davis and Charlotte. Heat 3 was won by Guy, followed by Max and Rob. Max secured pole followed by Guy. It was an extremely close final, with numerous position changes taking place on various parts of the circuit. Max eventually secured the win followed by Charlotte and Bobby Neil. The track surface was extremely slippery which resulted in a pile up within he dog leg. Most of the front runners were caught up in this, giving other drivers an advantage. The fastest lap went to Bobby Neil.

This meeting had the pleasure of hosting the RAF/MSA championship. Heats 1 and 2 went to Claire Kemp followed by Luke Bourne and Kevin Meynell. Heat 3 was won by Matt Wesley followed by Kevin and novice driver Olly Buckley. Claire secured the win in the wet final followed by Matt and Kevin. Claire also achieved fastest lap.

A larger grid of 177 Rotax entered this weekend with heats1 being won by Jake Oram on his first visit to the circuit. He was followed by Danny Cobb and Mark Jeffries. Heat 2 was won by Danny followed by Mark and Jake. Heat 3 was won by Jake, followed by Mark and Danny. Jake secured pole for the final. Due to persistant rain, the drivers were well spread out. Jake had a brilliant start and kept the lead until the end of the race. Mark secured 2nd place followed by Mark Tedder third. The weather paid a very major part of this final and numerous places were exchanged on he circuit. Mark Jefferies broke the 177 lap record in Heat 1 with a time of 42.22secs.

An extremely healthy Junior TKM class was represented this weekend with over 25 drivers taking place. Heat 1 was won by Gary Henderson-Keirle, followed by Josh Waring and Anthony Wynell-Mayow. Heat 2 was won by Josh followed by Gary and Lee Harrison. Heat 3 which was wet, was won by Gary followed by Ayrton Wynell-Mayow and Matthew Coulton. Gary secured pole position for the final which was also a very wet race. Lots of drama took place on various parts of the circuit with many drivers spinning off and rejoining a lap or 2 down. Gary took the win, followed by Josh some 5 seconds later and then Danny Keirle. Lee Harrison and Ayrton had a great battle between themselves and managed to finish 4th and 5th respectively. The class were very well represented in novices this meeting, and the first novice over the line was Ben Davis. The fastest lap went to Gary.

A smaller grid of Minimax were received this weekend, but this did not deter the drivers from competing against each other. Heat 1 was won by Matthew George, followed by Julian Davies who is now in his first year of juniors, and Joshua Green. Heat 2 was won by Matthew, followed by Julian and Joshua. Heat 3 was won by Chris Shaw followed by Julian and Jordan Aveline. Matthew secured pole position for the final. The race was declared wet and numerous track positions were exchanged. Jordan eventually went on to take the win along with Chris and Novice driver Joshua Collings. The fastest lap went to Matthew.
